Katie: Today was the first day of the trip. We started our
journey to South Carolina around 7:30am and made it to St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church by 4pm so we made great time! The trip was overall very smooth and
painless ( I didn’t have to drive but the drivers didn’t really complain so I
assume they had a good day too). The
group was quiet at first but has gradually warmed up as the day went on. I
think everyone meshes pretty well and we will have a fun trip. Dinner was super
delicious chicken kabobs and roasted veggies (shout out to the church staff for
hooking us up!) My favorite part so far was probably the reflection since I was
able to start to really bond with the group and we played fun games. I’m
looking forward to getting to know everyone even more and having fun camp adventures
and MANATEES!!!
Steven: Today was the first day. To start, we woke up super
early and ate Bagel Place in CP before disembarking on our journey of a
lifetime. We started our trip with a four hour stretch of driving, pee free,
until we hit our first gas station. We refueled and changed cars at the dismay
of the all of us since we were forced by Kara to intermingle our sexually
segregated cars. In the next stretch of the ride, there was very little
conversation because we were all tired and maybe nervous to get to know new
people. Upon arrival to the church, a lot of little kids were looking at us as
if we had the key to their liberation from that forsaken park they were all
playing on while awaiting their parents to pick them up. Finally, we made it
inside and our hosts at the church ordered for us top-notch Greek food and to
top it off: southern sweet tea. After a fabulous dinner during which we
reluctantly made conversation, we attempted to escort ourselves to the YMCA for
showers. After a minor detour, we stumbled upon it and cleaned ourselves for
the ensuing week ahead. Finally, we ended the night with a group reflection,
which I am prohibited to speak on since we strictly hereby “Vegas Rules” for
our reflections. Finally, we played games and went to bed. All together it was
a, dare I say, epic start to our service trip in Central Florida.
